Snatchers grab Hyderabad cop's scooter
Hyderabad: Chain-snatchers attacked a police constable in LB Nagar, snatched his scooter and fled. The cop, P. Samaiah, a member of the anti-chain-snatching squad of the local police station, was trying to stop them after a brief chase. The criminals slapped Samaiah and pushed him away. After that they abandoned their bike and fled on the cop’s scooter.
Police checked details of the abandoned bike and found that it was stolen from Narayanguda. A manhunt is on to track down the criminals. The incident occurred on Monday at around 1.30 pm near Bairamalguda. The cop, who was on the field on his scooter, found two youths moving suspiciously on a pulsar bike.
“The duo was driving a pulsar. Samaiah followed them on his scooter and stopped them after a brief chase. He got down from his scooter and snatched the key of the suspects' bike to immobilise them. But suddenly they pushed him away and slapped him. Before he could respond one of them jumped on his scooter and fled with his companion behind him,” said inspector P. Kashi Reddy of LB Nagar police station.
The cop, who usually monitors CCTV cameras at the police station, was in the field in civvies, police said. The police launched a manhunt and started checking CCTV footages in the area. Cops found the criminals had fled towards old city.
The police found that the pulsar bike abandoned by the chain-snatchers was stolen from Narayanguda in 2014. The cops found the owner, who told them that he had filed a complaint regarding his bike two years ago.
Last November, the police had to open fire at bike-borne chain-snatchers when they grabbed the gold chain of a woman right in front of cops at LB Nagar. The chain-snatchers escaped although the cops fired two rounds.
