Anantapur: Four killed as ambulance rams lorry
Anantapur: Four persons were killed and one suffered serious injuries when an ambulance carrying passengers rammed a stalled lorry near Gooty under Peddavadugur police station limits on NH-44 in the district in the wee hours on Tuesday.
The victims were farmers from Narasaraopet in Guntur district going to Anantapur for personal work. According to sour-ces, the Anantapur-based private ambulance was hired by family members of a patient to drop them at Kurnool hospital.
After dropping the patient at Kurnool hospital, the driver was returning to Anantapur when he picked up the four passengers at Dhone railway station in Kurnool district. After the ambulance crossed Gooty town, the driver rammed the vehicle into a parked lorry on NH-44. Four persons died on the spot.
The two who suffered injuries were shifted to Gooty hospital. Peddavadugur police said the victims were from Narasaraopet and infor-med the family members and handed over the bodies after autopsy at Gooty government hospital.
