Hyderabad: A cab driver who allegedly tried to molest a 21-year-student was arrested by Cyberabad Police, under the limits of RGI Airport police station, on Monday.
“The driver of the private cab, in the guise of fixing sunscreen to the windshield, sat beside the girl and allegedly misbehaved with her,” the police said.
Similar incidents of cab drivers harassing passengers were reported earlier also from the city.
According to the police, the girl, a resident of Shamshabad, was on her way to college from home. On the main road, she boarded a private cab going towards Attapur. After travelling for some distance, the driver, identified as Tirumalesh, had stopped the car on the road and said that he will fix the sun screens on the windshields.
After fixing the sun screens on three windshields, he came to the one beside the girl and in an attempt to fix the sun screen, he misbehaved with her. The girl who was alert, pushed him away and jumped out of the car, raising an alarm.
She also clicked pictures of the car and the number plate on her mobile and later, along with her family members, approached the police. Based on the clues, the police nabbed the cabbie. The clever cabbie, however, tried to mislead the police by saying that there were other passengers in the vehicle, but after verifying CCTV cameras en route, the police found that he was lying.
In a similar incident, a cab driver was arrested in Cyberabad after he demanded the contact number of a Delhi based passenger travelling in the vehicle and even masturbated in the vehicle while travelling on the Outer Ring Road in January.
