Bengaluru: Woman, daughter commit suicide

Though the exact cause is not known, it is suspected that they were depressed over Manjula not getting married.

Bengaluru: A 60-year-old woman and her 37-year-old daughter, who was not married, hanged themselves at their house in Prakash Nagar under Rajajinagar police station limits.

The deceased have been identified as Savitramma and her daughter Manjula, residents of 5th Cross in Prakash Nagar. Though the exact cause is not known, it is suspected that they were depressed over Manjula not getting married. The two made a living with the money they got from renting a shop.

Savitramma’s husband died in 2004 and a few years later, their son Raju left the house and stayed separately. Later he fell in love with a woman and got married, after which he never visited his mother or sister.

The twin-suicides came to light on Monday when neighbours woke up to a foul smell from Savitramma’s house. They informed the police and Raju. The police rushed to the spot and broke open the door to find Savitramma and Manjula hanging. The bodies had started decomposing and were shifted to a hospital for postmortem. A case was registered at the Rajajinagar police station.
