Hyderabad: A group of II year Intermediate students of Sri Chaitanya College in Bachupalli created ruckus inside the campus and assaulted the principal for objecting to them going out of the campus late at night. The students also attacked the police who came to control the mob and a home guard. They threw stones at an RTC bus and injured two passengers. Police booked 30 students.
Around 970 Intermediate students are staying at the Sri Chaitanya Junior College Neon and IPL campus in Bachupalli. On Saturday, at around 10 pm, some students tried to go out of the campus. The principal, Mr Murali Mohan, 45, did not allow them, and asked them to go to their rooms as they had to write the final paper on Sunday. This led to an argument and the students attacked the principal. When the students tried to attack other hostel staffers and damaged furniture, the staff called the police.
A team headed by the Bachupalli inspector rushed to the spot. As soon as cops entered the campus, the students switched off power. The students put their bedspreads in the open and set them afire.
Before police came the students threw stones at a bus. “There were around 15 passengers in the bus including women. We tried to get off the bus but they blocked doors and we hid under the seats,” said driver Nagaraju Goud who was hit by a stone.
As soon as police arrived the students switched off power and threw stones. “We did not understand what was happening as the students were raining stones on us. They also threw empty alcohol bottles,” said home guard Mohammed Riyaz, who was injured. Kukatpally ACP N. Bhujanga Rao said they deployed additional forces and the situation was brought under control. “We have identified the students involved. Since they are minors we are calling their parents,” the ACP said.
A case of rioting and damaging public property was registered as per the RTC driver’s complaint. Another case for inflicting injuries was registered based on the home guard’s complaint. The principal and the home guard were administered eight stitches each on their heads and discharged.
