Hyderabad: Cops reject assault charge, show videos
Hyderabad: The police released video footages on Sunday to prove that sculptor Bheem Singh was not assaulted inside the police station. His family had said that Bheem Singh was beaten to death by cops.
Police said that Singh was drunk when he came to the police station. Footages from surveillance cameras at the police station showed an SI letting Singh to sit on a chair and allowing him to talk on his mobile phone. Singh later went to the washroom and never came out.
Police broke into the washroom and found that he had collapsed inside. Forensic doctors said that Singh might have had a heart stroke due to intoxication.
The video footage showed an SI handing over his own mobile phone to Singh when he said he wanted to talk to his family. Senior police officials said that Singh was called to the police station in connection with a minor assault case on Saturday at 11.55 am.
“Bheem Singh, who was drunk, had stopped his friend Dillip Bharathi on the street and had asked him to throw a party as Dilip’s wife had given birth to a baby recently. Dilip told him that he would throw the party later. An inebriated Singh then quarrelled with Dilip and beat him up,” said commissioner M. Mahender Reddy.
“Singh was summoned to the police station. He was allowed to talk to his family from the SI’s phone. At around 4.30 pm he went to the toilet and did not come out. When co-accused Birju Singh went to use the toilet he found that it was closed. The cops forcibly opened the door and found that Singh had collapsed. He was rushed to a hospital and given first aid and later taken to Osmania General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” said the commissioner.
