Tamil Nadu engineering graduates cheated of Rs 10.5 lakh

Emmanuel and his friends lodged a complaint with the Valliyoor police, who allegedly did not take the issue seriously.

Tirunelveli: As many as six engineering graduates who claim to have been cheated to the tune of Rs 10.5 lakh by their classmate working in Dubai, have sought the Tirunelveli district collector’s intervention to get back their money.

One of the cheated graduates, Emmanuel Jeyabalan (23) son of D. Devaraj of Thisayanvilai in Tirunelveli district, petitioned the district collector, Dr M. Karunaharan that he along with five other batch-mates gave Rs 10.5 lakh to one of their classmates, Sakthivel (23) son of Robinson of Kallikulam to help them get jobs in an oil rig company in Dubai. Sakthivel working there promised them to get the jobs.

Believing Sakthivel, Emmanuel and his five friends—Ramesh, Suresh, Ab-ilesh, Sanjai Sabesan and Maichael Esther-, gave Rs 10.5 lakh in three installments to Sakthivel’s father, Robinson, in August 2015. Having received the money, Sakthivel did not respond positively and when Emmanuel enquired him about the job last November, Sakthivel did not answer properly. However, after repeated pestering he send visas to the six boys including Emmanuel.

The visas, however, were later found to be forged documents and hence Emmanuel and his five friends demanded Sakthivel’s father to return their money. Of the total amount, only Rs 91,800 was returned, even as Sakthivel’s father said they could return only Rs. 4 lakh.

Hence, Emmanuel and his friends lodged a complaint with the Valliyoor police, who allegedly did not take the issue seriously. “Instead they tried to calm down us and advised us to settle the issue by getting what Sakthivel was able to give,” complained Emmanuel, who on Saturday submitted a petition to the district collector seeking his intervention to get back their money from Sakthivel.

Emmanuel also petitioned the Tirunelveli district SP demanding action agai-nst the Valliyoor police inspector, Anbu Prakash and sub-inspector, Palani for trying to sweep the problem under carpet in favour of the cheaters by not registering their complaint promptly.
