Kakinada: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK) will take a decision on reinstating Professor K. Babulu who is under suspension for more than a year on charges of sexual harassment.
The University SC, ST Teachers Union representatives and some of Dalit organisations met the Vice Chancellor of the University M. Ramalinga Raju recently and appealed to him to reinstate Mr Babulu.
The controversy surrounding Mr Babulu one year back created a flutter in the state and a criminal case was booked against him in the aftermath of agitations.
Mr Babulu submitted a representation to the JNTUK authorities saying that the suspension order does not extend beyond three months if within this period the memorandum of charges or charge sheet is not served on the delinquent officer or employee.
He cited the Supreme Court of India judgment in his representation that even in those cases where a charge sheet is filed within the stipulated time frame of three months, the order of suspension will not continue or extend automatically. It can be extended by an order passed afresh.
