Bengaluru MLA in trouble for threatening police inspector

Magadi legislator Balakrishna abused cop, said his party workers will assault policemen n FIR filed.

Bengaluru: JDS MLA of Magadi legislative constituency H. C. Balakrishna, verbally abused a police Circle Inspector and threatened that his party workers will assault policemen. The Kudur police have registered an FIR against the MLA and his supporters in this connection.

The incident took place on Wednesday, when the MLA visited Kudur police station to demand the arrest of Congress party workers, who allegedly assaulted JDS workers in two separate incidents.

On Saturday, a procession of deities was held in Ayyandalli village in Kudur police station limits and clash erupted between JDS and Congress workers and four JDS workers were assaulted. Again on Sunday, some Congress workers had reportedly assaulted JDS workers.

Though FIRs were registered in the case, the police have not arrested the accused. The JDS MLA along with his supporters had gone to the Kudur police station to demand the arrest of accused in both the cases.

While Magadi Circle Inspector H. L. Nandish, under whose jurisdiction the incidents took place, was assuring the MLA that police would definitely arrest those involved in the case, the MLA lost his cool and started abusing the inspector. He shouted at the inspector that the police were not arresting the Congress workers, as the party is in power in the state.

“I know why you are not arresting the accused, the Congress government has castrated policemen. It is more than four days and you have not arrested a single person. You better suspend the sub inspector, I won’t even ask you to arrest the accused,” the MLA shouted at the inspector. When the inspector objected, the MLA abused him addressing him in singular. Later, the MLA came out of the station and addressed the party workers.

“We have given time till Monday to arrest the accused. If there is no action, a massive protest will be held. We don’t know what will happen that day. Our workers would lay siege to the police station, or assault the sub inspector, or assault the inspector, I don’t know,” the MLA threatened.

Taking serious note of the MLA’s rowdy-like behaviour in the station, the IGP of the Central Range Seemanth Kumar Singh directed the Ramanagar police to register a case against him. Soon, the Kudur police registered an FIR against the MLA and his supporters, based on a complaint filed by inspector Nandish.

Ramangara SP Ramesh B told Deccan Chronicle, “We have registered an FIR and booked the MLA and his supporters for assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace and other sections. As far as the assault cases are concerned, the accused are absconding and they will be arrested soon.”
