Kerala: Juvenile kills youth with beer bottle
Kottayam: A college student who was attacked by a 16-year-old boy following a quarrel at Padinjare-kodikulam, under Kaliyar police station, near Thodupuzha, on Tues-day night died in a hospital on Thursday. The victim was identified as Arjun, 20, son of Soman of Vandamattam near Kaliyar, Idukki district. He was a final-year degree student of St Joseph’s College, Moolamattam. The police said Arjun had allegedly verbally insulted the juvenile’s sister, his classmate. The boy, who called Arjun to discuss the issue, struck him with a beer bottle after arguments around 8.30 pm.
The juvenile was arrested. Arjun had come to the place on a scooter with two of his friends, who were standing a little away. Arjun returned to his friends but fainted later. He was taken to the Muthalakandam Holy Family hospital and to the Chazhikattu hospital, Thodupuzha, on Wednesday. He died on Thursday morning due to internal haemorrhage, said Dr Boby Joseph, neuro-surgeon. Kaliyar CI Augustine Mathew told this newspaper that the juvenile had taken the beer bottle from the wayside. A murder case was charged against the boy who is under watch at the CI office, Kaliyar. He will be produced before the juvenile justice board on Friday.
