Hyderabad: Cop's wife sets herself on fire

The woman reportedly set herself on fire following a fight with her husband, the police said.

Hyderabad: The wife of a Home Guard who works in the police department reportedly set herself ablaze at her residence in Lingampalli village under Manchal police station limits in Rachakonda Commissionerate on Tuesday. The woman reportedly set herself on fire following a fight with her husband, the police said.

Manchal Inspector B. Anudeep said that Boggu Lavanya, 26, and Ravinder got married about eight years ago and was living at Lingampalli in Manchal mandal. Ravinder has been working as a home guard in the Telangana State Police Communications wing and was stationed at Hyderabad.

The couple has two children aged below six years.

He said that Lavanya and Ravinder had been having conflicts for quite some time over a piece of land and distribution of cash related to their ancestors. Ravinder, who was upset with the frequent fights, had gone home in an inebriated condition on Monday night, following which heated arguments took place between the couple.

On Monday morning, Lavanya reportedly set herself ablaze using some fuel. She died on the spot. A case of suspicious death has been registered based on a complaint from the woman’s family members. Te children were handed over to their grandparents, Inspector Anudeep said.
