BENGALURU: Seven people, including six Bangladeshis, were arrested by the Bellandur police on charges of securing Aadhaar cards by producing forged documents. An agent who helped the accused get Aadhaar cards too has been arrested, while the police have booked the doctor who attested their documents.
The accused wanted to get jobs in IT companies in and around Whitefield by getting Aadhaar cards and they had succeeded in getting into these companies.
The police have arrested the accused based on a complaint filed by officials of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Bengaluru.
The arrested are Rubiulla (23), Riyad Khan (25), Mohammed Khokon (20), Ohidulla (29), Mohammed Kalam (34) and Zakir Hussain (28) who hailed from Murel Ganj Thana in Bangladesh. They had entered India illegally and were living in the city for the last few years. The accused confessed to the police that they had crossed rivers to enter the country, and had reached Bengaluru via Kolkata.
An agent, Syed Saifulla, a resident of N.S. Palya in BTM Layout, who helped them get Aadhaar cards for Rs 500 each, was arrested by the police. Based on the information provided by Saifulla, the police also booked Dr H.C. Lokesh, working at a primary health centre in Bommasandra, for attesting the fake documents of the accused.
The police said the accused were living in Iblur and Marathahalli labour colony in huts and were doing odd jobs for a few months. As the earnings were insufficient, they started looking for alternatives. It was then that they met Saifulla, who helped them get Aadhaar cards which they used to get into IT companies. They were working as housekeeping staff at these companies.
Saifulla got Dr Lokesh to sign the proof of residence as he is a gazetted officer.
Saifulla confessed to the police that he forged the documents and got the Aadhaar cards done for over 50 people.
