Police arrest assistant public prosecutor for atrocity

ANANTAPUR: Three Town police have arrested an assistant public prosecutor (APP) of the Uravakonda court residing at the Revenue Colony in Anantapur. A case has also been booked against her father.

They are accused of severely beating up a 16-year-old minor girl working as a maid at their house. As the girl’s condition turned critical, the APP’s father took her to the Anantapur General Hospital late on Thursday night.

Hospital authorities grew suspicious and alerted police about the maid’s status.

According to Three Town circle inspector Dharani Kishore, APP Vasantha Lakshmibai had employed the minor girl from Gorantla area to serve as maid and look after the APP’s son. Vasantha Lakshmibai’s husband is also working as an APP in Srikakulam district.

When Vasantha Lakshmibai’s father Ranganaikulu took the girl to the GGH, doctors there found her mentally disturbed and with severe injuries. After GGH authorities alerted the police, the APP told police that the girl had beat herself up with a belt and got injured.

Based on a complaint by the victim's mother, police registered a case under section 324 and Juvenile Justice Act against Vasantha Lakshmibai and arrested her on Friday.

The APP has been granted bail. Police also registered a case against the father of APP for taking the girl to the hospital and not informing police.

GGH sources said the girl is still depressed mentally and in a state of fear.
