2 Uttar Pradesh natives held for looting bus passengers

They said the duo first arrived in Bengaluru and then went to Tamil Nadu, and finally landed in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: Two persons from Uttar Pradesh who stole valuables from the baggages of passengers travelling in a private bus were held by the Rachakonda central crime station sleuths on Monday. Police recovered property worth Rs 3.2 lakh from the accused duo and remanded them to judicial custody.

According to Rachako-nda police, the accused Mohd Shahnabaj, 27, and Amir Ansari, 25, were involved in a case of stealing Rs 6.5 lakh cash from the baggage of passengers travelling in a private bus from Kaikaluru to the city.

They said the duo first arrived in Bengaluru and then went to Tamil Nadu, and finally landed in Hyderabad.

On October 1, they booked tickets from Vijayawada to Hyderabad, meantime, they saw a passenger boarding the bus at Kaikaluru with a bag.

When passengers were asleep, the duo took the cash from the bag and got down at Abdullapurmet on the outskirts of the city. From there, the duo left to the RGI Airport, booked tickets and fled from the spot. The police said that Shahnabaj booked ticket to Jaipur and Ansari to Delhi, with the stolen money.

Soon after the incident was reported, special teams were formed to track the movements of the offenders and then found that they were wanted in Uttar Pradesh for similar offences. With the help of the technical information and the footage, the accused persons were nabbed when they again reached the city, said the police. The police teams recovered Rs 2.95 lakh cash and two mobile phones from the duo.

The investigation also revealed that they were wanted in some cases in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, and further inquiries are on, said the police.
