Bengaluru: 3 years later, ATM butcher still eludes cops
Bengaluru: Three years after an armed assailant attacked 40-year-old Jyothi Uday inside an ATM kiosk near Hudson Circle, city police remain clueless about his whereabouts.
The police had submitted ‘C’ report to the court about six months ago. ‘C’ report is filed when cops are unable to solve a case. However, they can reopen it in case of a breakthrough.
Despite their efforts, police haven’t gather a single clue about the accused. “Even now, we discuss the case in our meetings and direct our staff to keep working on it,” said an official.
The incident reported on November 19, 2013 sent shock waves across the nation. Following the incident, the police prepared a set of security guidelines to be followed in all ATM kiosks.
The attacker followed Jyothi Uday, who was then the manager of Corporation Bank’s Mission Road branch, into an ATM kiosk, then rolled down the shutters, trapping her.
He demanded money from her and when she refused, he threatened her with a pistol and machete. Later, he had attacked her with the machete and took away her mobile phone and debit cards.
Before leaving the kiosk, he rolled down the shutter, leaving her there, unconscious. The incident came to light three hours later.
