KG student rape: Enraged parents protest outside Banjara Hills police station

HYDERABAD: Protests erupted outside the Banjara Hills police station, with parents from a school where a girl was raped by the principal’s driver Beemana Rajani Kumar gathering to demand justice for the victim and protection for their children.

The protests also took a political turn, with the TD, the BJP’s student outfit ABVP, and the Congress workers rallying behind the parents. The parents claimed that the school principal was involved in everything the accused did, that he acted as a proxy for the principal, and that even teachers followed his instructions.

According to one of the parents, in order to contact the principal, they had to first speak with the accused. "He is a driver, but unlike all other drivers at the school who are limited to their work, this driver is present in all aspects of the school's operation. He collects fees and even instructs students and teachers at the school," a parent told Deccan Chronicle.

Another parent, whose child is in the same class as the victim, stated that whenever children saw him approaching them, they would flee.

Parents also claimed that there is a security lapse regarding unknown people entering the school when it is closed for the day. "Anyone can walk in and take a child with them. Neither the gatekeepers nor the teachers will inquire. We raised this issue with management as well, but in vain," they said.

Another parent claimed that the previous principal, who retired about two years ago, was receptive and responsive, but that the current principal is uninterested in children's issues and has entrusted everything to the accused driver to run the show. "If she had done her job correctly and restricted his movement, she could have saved one student's life while also not scaring several other children."

Meanwhile, some parents have stated that they have decided not to enroll their children in such a school, where their children's future and safety are jeopardised.
