Hyderabad: A baba was arrested by the Humayunnagar police on Tuesday for cheating a housewife by claiming that he could help her conceive a boy.
The victim had approached the baba because she was being harassed by her husband after giving birth to three girls.
The accused was identified as Mannan Baba, a migrant from Haryana who operated out of Tolichowki and Humayunnagar and claimed to practise black magic.
According to the police, he claimed to solve people’s problems but extorted money from them.
The police said that the woman was being harassed by her husband for a son. When she approached the baba, he told her that an evil spirit resided in her and that he could rid her of it for '1 lakh. He asked for another '1 lakh to ensure that she conceived a male child.
Out of desperation, she paid up without informing her family.
After three months, when she failed to conceive, he demanded more money and even asked her to have sex with him. When she rejected his demands, he threatened to kill her daughters with his powers.
The victim then approached the DCP of the west zone and shared her plight with him. The cops laid out a trap to nab the baba, booked a case against him, and sent him to judicial remand.
