Nizamabad: In view of Diwali festival, gambling is rampant in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts over the last few days. A section of people have made arrangement for high stakes gambling in hotels, lodges, apartments and other isolated places. Lakhs of rupees are at stake during festival. Believed it as tradition, some people gamble during Diwali in undivided Nizamabad district. The district’s proximity to Maharashtra and impact of north Indian culture has led to some people getting involved in gambling. Surprisingly, police remains a mute spectator on gambling during festival season.

Taking this as an advantage, gamblers make special arrangements in the district, even as the family members of the gamblers fret and fume. Earlier, a few housewives lodged complaint with the district police officers, asking them to control gambling in the district. Most of the participants lose their money in gambling.

Meanwhile, Nizamabad in-charge police commissioner and Kamareddy SP N. Swetha warned of serious action against gamblers. She said that police will take all measures to prevent gambling during Diwali in both districts. Ms Swetha asked people to lodge complaints on 94906 18000 if they noticed gambling anywhere in district.
