Odisha: Twin babies dumped in bin, rescued
BHUBANESWAR: Two newborn babies were rescued from the dustbin on the premises of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack, reports said on Tuesday. According to police, one Sukanti Nayak had given birth to twin baby girls on Friday at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) ward of the government-run hospital. While Sukanti’s husband Tulsi Ram, mother and brother were away, she on Friday wrapped her two daughters in a cloth and went out of the ward. She dumped the twins in a dustbin near the ward.
“Shortly, security personnel deployed at the ward came to know about the incident and alerted the police outpost on the hospital campus. The police rescued the newborns and readmitted them to the ward,” the police informed. While it is learnt that the woman has psychiatric problems, the babies were handed over to the family in the custody of their maternal grandmother Manju Nayak.
