Bengaluru: Businessman cheated of Rs 21.5 lakh over medical seat for his son
Bengaluru: A Haryana-based businessman was duped of Rs 21.5 lakh by a conman who promised a medical seat for his son at KIMS and escaped with the money.
The complainant, Kishan Lal, a businessman from Karnal in Haryana, told the police that he met Bhupinder Singh, who runs consultancy firm Vision Enterprises, in New Delhi, and asked for a medical seat for his son. He submitted documents to check whether his son was eligible for a medical seat. After going through the documents, Singh told Lal that he could get a seat for his son at the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences in Bengaluru, and sought Rs 1.5 lakh as a processing fee.
On August 10, Singh asked Lal to come to Bengaluru with Rs 20 lakh to be paid to the authorities. Lal arrived on Monday and handed over the cash to Singh at a coffee shop on MG Road. Singh, in turn, gave Lal a letter, which was purportedly from the college. He also assured Lal that his son would get a call from the college over the progress of his admission, and left the place.
When Lal went to the college the next day, the authorities told him that there was no seat for his son. Lal immediately tried to contact Singh, but the phone was not reachable. After several attempts to contact Singh failed, Lal realised that he had been cheated and filed a complaint with the Cubbon Park police station on Thursday.
The police have registered a cheating case against Singh and are investigating.
