Telangana: Auto driver immolates himself over son's illness
Hyderabad: Depressed over his younger son’s health, a 47-year-old autorickshaw driver from Hanuman Nagar of Choutuppal committed suicide by self-immolation on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Valamdas Sathaiah. “He had two children. His younger son, Jayesh, 19, had certain mental illness and Sathaiah had spent lakhs of rupees on his treatment. But the child was showing little sign of improvement,” J. Narender Goud, police inspector of Hayathnagar, said.
“He was suffering a lot because of his younger son’s health issue and decided to take the extreme step by self-immolation on Thursday night,” added the inspector. Currently, his body is preserved in the mortuary.
“He was the sole bread-winner of the family. The victim had spent around Rs 7 lakh to treat his child,” said a relative.
“Though the boy managed to study till the X standard, he was finding it difficult to cope with the studies. The father tried his level best to treat him,” added a neighbour.
