Nandyal bypoll: Rs 12 lakh seized, 51 from TD, YSRC held

Kurnool: The Nandyal police on Friday took 51 people from the YSRC and the TD into custody and seized Rs 12 lakh from them. This is the largest seizure of cash that has been conducted in relation to the Nandyal bypoll. In the upcoming elections, the stakes are extremely high for the both the ruling and the opposition party.

Nandyal DSP G. Gopala Krishna said that 51 persons had been taken into custody for the distribution of money to voters at five places, including Gandhinagar and Ayyalurumetta, in urban and rural areas of the constituency on Friday. Of those arrested, five belonged to the TD, and 46 belonged to the YSRC.

The police conducted raids based on information that they had received. The apprehended were shifted to police stations. The DSP said that cases had been registered at various police stations.
