Telangana: Charges in drug case next month
Hyderabad: Prohibition and excise director Akun Sabarwal said chargesheets would be filed from next month in cases related to the drugs racket that was busted recently. He was speaking at a panel discussion, ‘Substance abuse Causes, concerns and corrections’ at a principals’ conclave on Friday.
“We need to understand as a society that we need to shun drugs and not addicts, and everybody needs to be clear about that,” Mr Sabarwal said.
He said he was satisfied with the progress of the investigation. “We had a series of meetings with our legal advisers and public prosecutors. My assessment is that we should start filing chargesheets from September end,” he said.
Forensic science reports on body fluid samples would be available from the end of September. Majority of documentation work has also been completed, he said.
“Analysis of laptops and cell phones which were seized from the accused is also being done,” Mr Sabharwal added.
On notices issued to a few IT firms, he said the staff was being questioned based on substantial evidence. Courts had granted bail in some cases, and told the accused to appear before excise stations and undertake rehabilitation.
