Manipuri evangelist assaulted in Bengaluru
BENGALURU: A 26-year-old evangelist hailing from North-east was allegedly assaulted by five unidentified men near his house in Lakshmipura in Indiranagar police station limits early Thursday. The victim, identified as Evan Mamang Kipgen, hails from Manipur and works at Thadou Christian Fellowship Church (TCF) in the city Kipgen told this newspaper that he was assaulted by five men while he was returning home after visiting his friend at around 2 am. “I saw these men standing in a group. I quietly crossed them and didn’t say anything. As I walked further, they came from behind and attacked me without any provocation.”
He further said, “They were speaking in Kannada and I could not understand. They didn’t rob me. I raised an alarm and called for help. When they saw my friends coming, they fled.”
Kipgen then approached the jurisdictional police and registered an assault complaint. He came to the city in 2012 and later moved to Tamil Nadu. He returned to Bengaluru two months ago.
The Thadou Students' Association, Bengaluru has condemned the assault and urged the police to take strict action. They also wanted the police to increase security in Lakshimipuram as there have been many cases of assaults and robbery in the area. Indiranagar police have taken up the case and begun investigation.
