Hyderabad: A 19-year-old labour who allegedly targeted the inmates of private girls hostels in KPHB and Madhapur stealing their mobile phones and demanding to strip to get their mobiles back was arrested on Thursday. S Santosh Kumar, a native of Karimnagar, wanted to enter the film industry, police said.

He came to Hyderabad six months back and started working as a security guard. Later he left the job and started earning on daily wages. In free times, he went to film studios and observed the the actors. He had a special interest in women and thus targeted women residing in private hostels located in Madhapur and KPHB.

He will enter the campus and then commit theft of mobile phones and later dispose them for a lesser price but retains the SIM card. “He identifies the contact numbers of women stored in the sim card and calls them and talk to them in a vulgar language. If they resist, he withdraws and avoid calling the same person.” Kukatpally ACP Mr Bhujanga Rao said.

He committed theft of around eight mobiles from different hostels and none of the hostel where he committed theft has CC cameras and night watchmans. In the case registered at KPHB, he climbed the hostel building and through the window pulled a 22 year old private employee and when she raised alarm he snatched her mobile phone.

“ When she demanded him to return the mobile, he threatened by showing a blade and demanded her to strip infront of him in exchange for the mobile. When her friends woke up after she raised an alarm again, he fled from the spot.” the ACP said.

There are two complaint against him SHE teams Hyderabad and one with KPHB Police station. He was earlier arrested in Karimnagar and Narsingi Police stations in house theft cases. Police arrested him and recovered eight mobiles from his possession. Police is investigating.
