CHENNAI: A 20-year-old youth from Chengalpet who was allegedly beaten up by his uncles for spontaneously breaking into dance during a musical programme in a temple festival on Sunday died in Chennai Rajiv Gandhi government general hospital on Thursday morning. The deceased was identified as V. Kalaiarasan of Kavankarai near Palur.
According to the police Kalaiarasan got on the stage in between and danced on Sunday night at the programme organised for the festival at Selliyamman temple in his village. “It looks like his sudden decision to dance in the stage when the music programme was on had embarrassed his uncles, Ranagadurai (40) and Ezhumalai (37). When kalaiarasan went back home, the two assaulted him using an iron pipe. He suffered head injuries and died in Chennai GH,” police said.
Kalaiarasan, his two sisters and their speech-impaired mother were under the care of his uncle after his father deserted them. Following the death of the youth, who was working as a daily wage worker, police had registered a case of murder and are hunting for his uncles who are absconding.
