Bengaluru: A tahsildar from Belagavi district was allegedly attacked by people involved in illegal sand mining at Ramdurg on Tuesday evening.
The officer came under attack when a sand laden tractor knocked his official vehicle at the site of sand mining near Ramdurg. His arm got fractured in the incident.
The tahsildar of Ramdurg taluk, Ramachandra Katti, decided to raid the place where illegal sand mining was taking place near Ramdurg on Tuesday. As he entered the site in a jeep, a tractor laden with sand knocked his vehicle abruptly.
The tractor driver fled leaving behind the vehicle. The tahsildar's official vehicle was badly damaged in the collision.
After several leaders and people had complained to government authorities about rampant illegal sand mining in Ramdurg and its surrounding areas for the past few months, the tahsildar had decided to raid the area.
