Even staff are not safe at Kadakkavur station
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If the slew of recent events is an indication, then passengers and even railway staffers have no escape from anti-social elements in and around Kadakkavur railway station. The latest was on Friday night when Anuja, a woman railway employee who was waving a green flag to a goods train was robbed of her one sovereign gold chain at around 3 am. Her screams went unheard due to the sound of the train and the snatcher disappeared in the shrubbery around.
The incident has caused much furore and protest from railways staffers who already face trouble from drunkards who drink right outside the station. Often the railway platforms which have no continuous compound wall are used by locals to sleep after getting drunk.
“Some peddlers who were earlier caught at places like Perukulam, during their interrogation, had told us that they used to exchange stuff here,” said a police officer attached to local station. Around 60 acres of land is under railways possession at Kadakkavur.
As per local railway users, eve-teasing is high as women arrive here in the morning to catch trains like Vanchinad and Mumbai Kanniyakumari Express. Police officers say that things are not different even at nearby Chirayankeezhu station where recently the Auto Jayan gang allegedly hacked rival Allaoochi Rajesh causing him grievous injuries.
