School van runs over 2-year-old kid in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A two-year-old child was run over and killed by a school van at Shadnagar on Saturday.
Police said that Nandini was playing outside her house when the van belonging to Kakatiya High school came to pick up other children from the village and she ran towards the bus. The van driver did not notice her. On Friday a six year-old had been mowed down by a school van in Jeedimetla.
Police said Nandini was the only daughter of Laxmaiah, a daily wage worker staying at Ryots Colony in Shadnagar in Mahbbnagar district. On Saturday, at around 8.30 am, the Kakatiya High School van came to Ryots Colony to pick up school children. Nandini, who was playing in front of her house, ran towards the van. After the children got into the van, the driver Venkatesh started the van. “He did not see the girl behind the vehicle and ran over her. She suffered serioius injuries and succumbed on way to hospital,” Shadnagar inspector Ramakrishna said.
Around 15 children were in the van at the time of the incident and a male attendant was also on board the vehicle, but he too failed to notice the child and signaled the driver to move the vehicle. Police said that the driver, who had been working with the school for the past three years had a valid licence and the van had a renewed fitness certificate. A case of accidental death was registered and the body was handed over to the family. Venkatesh has been taken into custody for questioning. Police is investigating.
