Chennai: 40 hi-end mobile phones stolen from store

Chennai: Two masked men broke into a mobile store near ICF and fled with phones worth Rs 7 lakh along with Rs 97,000 in cash on the early hours of Saturday

The incident occurred at the store of one Mustafa, between 5.30 am and 6.15 am. The police have derived CCTV footage of the incident that shows two masked men breaking the CCTV camera kept outside the shop before carrying out the robbery.

According to the police, the gang walked up to the showroom at about 5.30 am. Police said Mustafa’s friend one Meeran who lived near the mobile store heard human voices inside the store and he tried to alert the residents.

However, the two robbers threatened him at knifepoint and fled from the spot with the stolen mobiles and cash.The ICF police were alerted and based on the complaint by Mustafa an offence of burglary has been registered. Police said the robbers picked up 40 mobile phones that were kept on display in the shop. The accused, interestingly, only stole branded and costly phones while ignoring the low-cost mobile phones. They stole costly phones of Samsung, Motorola, Sony and iPhones.

They also stole Rs 92,000 kept in the cash box. Police said “The faces of the men were covered. But we are confident of tracking them down soon. The cops are usually able to crack such cases when the stolen mobile phones are used by someone. Police are tracking down them through the phone’s IMEI number”. Further probe is on.
