Odisha: 4 siblings set ablaze by their brother-in-law
Bhubaneswar: Four siblings, including three sisters and a brother, sustained burn injuries as their brother-in-law Arun Nayak allegedly poured petrol on them and set them afire over a family dispute on late Wednesday night at Duarsuni village under Bhawanipatna Sadar police station limits in Kalahandi district, police said on Thursday. All of them were admitted to Kalahandi district headquarters hospital, Bhawanipatna.
Condition of the boy named Chandan Nayak, 16, who suffered around 50 per cent burn injuries is stated to be critical. The three sisters who sustained minor burn injuries are Sarita Nayak, 22, Rita Nayak, 24, and Smita Nayak, 25. According to sources, seeking vengeance over a past family feud, the brother-in-law allegedly doused the siblings by throwing petrol on them through skylight while they all were asleep.
Later, he set them ablaze. “The incident took place at around 12 midnight when we four were asleep. He poured petrol on us through skylight and set afire before fleeing the spot,” Chandan said at the hospital. The parents of the injured lodged complaint with police.
