Bengaluru: Construction worker buried alive

The deceased, Linga Reddy, died on the spot, while his daughter-in-law Narasamma, 20, escaped with minor injuries.

Bengaluru: A 50-year-old construction labourer was buried alive, while his daughter-in-law escaped with injuries after mud caved in on them while they were digging the ground for the foundation in a vacant plot of land in Banashankari second stage on Wednesday.

The deceased, Linga Reddy, died on the spot, while his daughter-in-law Narasamma, 20, escaped with minor injuries. They are from Adhoni near Mantralaya and came to the city only a couple of days ago.

Around 9 am on Wednesday, Reddy and other workers started digging for the foundation. Around 12.15 pm, the mud wall collapsed on Reddy and Narasamma. While Reddy was covered in mud completely, Narasamma was partially buried.

The other workers pulled out Narasamma and informed the police, who alerted the Fire and Emergency Service personnel. The police along with the fire personnel pulled out Reddy and shifted him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

The police have detained Swami, who was a mason at the construction site. They are still trying to trace the owner of the land and also the contractor. “Only after arresting the owner will we know what they were constructing on the site,” the police said.
