Bengaluru: 58-year old home-alone Delhi woman found murdered

The 58-year old was found with her limbs tied; no signs of forced entry.

Bengaluru: A 58-year-old woman, hailing from Delhi, was found murdered at her residence in Kothanur police station limits on Wednesday. Police said the deceased has been identified as Kiran Singh and she lived alone at her own house in Chikkagubbi.

The incident came to light when Kiran’s maid Krishnamma came to work on Wednesday morning. The door was open and the victim’s hands and legs were tied up. Police said the victim had an injury mark on her neck and the assailants may have strangulated her using a rope.

Kiran was serving as a volunteer with Manasa Foundation, a city-based non-governmental organisation and prior to that she was employed as a human resources executive with a private airline company.

Krishnamma informed the neighbours, who in turn alerted the police. They carried out a spot inspection of the crime scene and the body was shifted to B.R. Ambedkar Hospital for post-mortem.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry into the house and hence someone known to her could have committed the crime. A senior police officer said the assailants were more than one in number.

A native of Delhi, Kiran had worked as HR executive in private airlines and later resigned to serve as a volunteer at an NGO. She has been living in the city for over five years, the police said. She was also learning yoga and meditation, along with her work at NGO, they added.

She was married for many years, but did not have children. The police also have no clue about her husband. Inquiries revealed that she had ancestral property in Delhi and the police do not rule out property dispute or murder for gain as possible motives. “We are investigating into all possible angles and will crack the case at the earliest,” said Dr P. Harsha, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North East Division.

The police have informed her sisters and brothers, who have left for the city from Delhi. The cause of her death will be ascertained only after getting the post-mortem report, Harsha added.
