Hyderabad: A woman allegedly branded her 10-year-old cousin with a hot steel skewer on her thighs for not obeying her.
Police said that Y. Swapna, 22, got angry when her younger cousin K. Kavya ran out of the house to play in the hot, blazing sun even after being told to stay inside. Police arrested Swapna after a complaint from the victim’s parents.
After her arrest Swapna said the branding was not intentional, but was just an accident. Kavya is now being treated at a local hospital. The incident happened at the victim’s house in PS Nagar when the victim’s parents were not present.
“Kavya, a Class V student, was playing outside the house under the hot sun. Swapna told her to stop playing and come inside as the heat was intense. But Kavya continued to play without paying attention to Swapna. An angry Swapna, who was cooking in the kitchen with the hot skewer, branded the kid on her thighs,” said a police official.
Kavya, who suffered burns, started crying for help. Her relatives, who lived next door rushed to te spot and took her to a nearby hospital immediately.
Kavya’s mother K. Madhavi later lodged a complaint against Swapna with the Humayun Nagar police. The police booked a case against Swapna under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act and IPC Section 324 (inflicting injuries using dangerous weapons).
