Chennai: Man kills drinking partner who made sexual advances

A 52-year old man clubbed his septuagenarian friend to death following a drunken brawl.

Chennai: A 52-year old man clubbed his septuagenarian friend to death following a drunken brawl, which stemmed from the latter’s sexual advances, in Chromepet, during the small hours of Monday.

Police sources said Venkatesan, (52), a bachelor who is a resident of New Colony, Chromepet, and his longtime friend Alappan, (70), a casual labourer, resident of Periyar Nagar, Jameen Royapettah, had a binge session on Sunday night at Alappan’s cousin’s house in Nagar I street. Both were sleeping on the terrace when, late into the night, Venkatesan woke up to Alappan’s sexual advances. This led to a wordy altercation, which developed, into a fisticuff. An enraged Venkatesan fished out a piece of bamboo from the terrace and thrashed Alappan, who collapsed in the onslaught. Having come back to his senses, Venkatesan then checked on his friend only to find him dead by then. Fearing mob justice from Alappan’s kith and kin, he rushed down through the stairs but in the process tripped and rolled down the stairs. As his cries woke up neighbours, they alerted the 108 ambulance service to move him to the hospital and called in the Chitlappakkam police to move Alappan’s body to Chromepet Government Hospital.

Venkatesan who suffered grievous injuries in the head was given first-aid at Chromepet where it took about 8 sutures to stop the bleeding. He was later referred to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), where he is under treatment.

Police, who did not record the sexual advances angle to the murder, maintained that the duo fought over a trivial issue in their inebriated condition, leading to fisticuffs and murder. Cops also parried questions on the duo’s relationship.
