Man arrested for suicide of woman village assistant
Vijayawada: An 'abusive' man has been arrested following the death of a village assistant at Bogireddipalli village of Bandar Taluk in Krishna district.
The woman designated as village organisation assistant (bookkeeper), committed suicide after the man, Garikipati Narasimha Rao, abused her in connection with in an issue linked to his wife.
According to police, Garikapati Nagalakshmi, 45, hailing from Bogireddipalli village was involved in the work of maintaining the main records of 34 self-help groups. Following a tiff over sanction of loan to a member from Sri Bhramarambika Self Help Group, its head Garikapati Nagamani separated from the SHGs being taken care of by Nagalakshmi.
In this connection, Nagamani’s husband Narasimha Rao sought details of SHGs being taken care by Nagalakshmi and an altercation erupted between the two.
Nagalakshmi lodged a complaint at Bandar Taluk police station on Feb. 24, alleging that Narasimha Rao tried to attack her and that he abused her at Velugu Office during a meeting on Feb. 23. The police counseled both.
On March 14, Nagalakshmi complained about this to the Krishna SP in the Spandana programme. The police booked a case on March 16 based on Nagalakshmi’s complaint. However, on March 16 at about 6pm, Nagalakshmi attempted to commit suicide by consuming pesticide, alleging that she was abused by Narasimha Rao.
She was shifted to government hospital and she breathed her last on March 17. The police arrested Narasimha Rao and sent him to judicial remand.
