Bengaluru: Cops nab woman who killed hubby for lover

The incident occurred on February 25 when Sukhita and her paramour smothered Uma Shankar to death to hide their illicit relationship.

Bengaluru: A woman, who along with her paramour smothered her husband to death and made it look like a suicide, has been arrested after the postmortem report confirmed that it was a murder and not a suicide.

The Soldevanahalli police on Monday arrested Sukhita (30), wife of the deceased Uma Shankar, and her paramour Srinivas (31) on charges of murder.

The incident occurred on February 25 when Sukhita and her paramour smothered Uma Shankar to death to hide their illicit relationship. The duo was in an illicit relationship over the last few years and were scared that Uma Shankar would someday find out about their relationship and object to it.

Srinivas came up with the idea of getting rid of Uma Shankar without getting caught, the police said.

On the day of murder, as Uma Shankar was sleeping, Sukhita called Srinivas to her house and the two smothered him to death. Sukhita then approached the police and told them that Shankar had committed suicide.

The same night, Shankar's uncle Ashwatappa filed a complaint with the police suspecting a foul-play in Shankar’s death.

The police, who had sent the body for post-mortem, started investigating the case. Though the police had learnt about the illicit relationship between Sukhita and Srinivas, they waited for the postmortem report to take further action.

When the postmortem report came, it confirmed that Shankar did not commit suicide but was smothered to death.

The police detained Sukhita and during the interrogation, she confessed to killing her husband along with Srinivas. The duo was then arrested.
