Meghana's death: Sister still in dark
BENGALURU: Sanjana, the 16-year-old second PU student, was lying on a hospital bed while other family members were in deep sorrow as they were busy with the last rites of her 21-year-old sister Meghana, a second year engineering student. The family members, who were devastated by the loss of a member, are finding no way to inform the bitter truth to Sanjana that her sister is no more. Sanjana, who has sustained about 40 per cent burn wounds, is said to be recovering.
On Thursday, Meghana’s uncle, Harish, had a tough time trying to disclose Meghana’s parents about their daughter’s death. “Around 9 pm, the doctors examined her and lost all hope. They said that she would not survive even for two hours and asked us to inform her parents and relatives to see her alive for the last time. Her father Nataraj and Anupama, who had also sustained burn injuries, were discharged just a few hours earlier from a hospital in Vijayanagar. They were not aware of Meghana’s condition. I had to tell the bad news to them and asked them to come to the hospital immediately. They came and I informed that we would lose Meghana in a few hours. It was very heart rending for them to feed her Tulasi water, before she breathed her last. The doctors declared her dead at 10.15 pm,” Harish told DC.
Meghana’s last rites were performed at a crematorium in Sriramapur on Friday afternoon. “We have not yet informed Sanjana about Meghana’s death. We are planning to inform her once she completely recovers,” Harish added. Meanwhile, the Sriramapura police, who have registered an attempt to murder case against accused Deepak, said that they would charge him with murder, as Meghana succumbed to injuries.
On March 11 midnight, Deepak, who was in love with Meghana, had poured petrol inside her house at Sai Baba Layout in Srirampura, when the four family members were asleep. All the four had sustained burn wounds. Deepak had confessed to the police that he did this as Meghana and her parents told him that he could marry Meghana only after he completed graduation, and she was avoiding his phone calls.
