AP: Red sanders worth Rs 75 lakh seized, two held

Forty eight logs of red sanders weighing 1.5 tons, one SUV, a truck and three cell phones were seized from them, says police.

Kadapa: Two alleged red sanders smugglers were on Saturday arrested here and 48 logs of the precious wood worth Rs 75 lakh were seized, police said. The accused duo were identified as Abdul Rehaman (52) and C G Lokesh.

"Forty eight logs of red sanders weighing 1.5 tons, one SUV, a truck and three cell phones were seized from them. The total value of the wood is around Rs 75 lakh in the international market," Kadapa Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Naveen Gulati said.

Rehaman hails from Sira town in Tumkur district in Karnataka. Nineteen different cases have already been registered against him, including eighteen in Kadapa district alone. Lokesh belongs to Narasipura taluk of Mysore district and police have recorded three cases against him in the past. Further investigation into the case is on.
