4 students among 7 rogue bikers held in Visakhapatnam

The police got a video clip of the stunts recently and arrested the offenders on Friday.

Visakhapatnam: Seven youngsters, including four Undergraduate students were arrested by MVP Colony Police on Friday, for negligent and rash driving on March 7 night (On Mahashivaratri), near Appughar.

The accused were identified as Md. Shariq, 21, a third-year B.Tech student of Andhra University, A. Santosh Kumar, 20, a B.Com Year II student of GVP College, Joseph Jones, 19, a BBM Year II student of GVP College- Rushikonda, V. Narendra. 21, a B.Sc final-year student of Dr LB College, Md. Nafiz Ahmed, 23, a welder by profession, N. Purushottam Reddy, 23, a car driver and R. Satyanarayana, 23, a false ceiling worker.

DCP (Zone-I) Dr C.M. Thrivikrama Varma said that eight youngsters were involved in stunts and racing on the Beach Road near Appughar at about 1.30 am on Shivaratri. Their dangerous stunts caused much inconvenience to the passers-by and a complaint was lodged by one of them at Dial 100. But, before the police team could reach, the bikers had left the spot.

The cops got a video clip of the stunts recently and arrested the offenders on Friday after registering a case under Section 279 of IPC (Rash and Negligent Driving).

The cops are also looking for one more biker in connection with the case. The cops have seized the bikes, including models Yamaha FZ, Yamaha R15 and others from the motorists.

The DCP admitted that the cops concerned reacted slowly even after they received the complaint call as the men-in-khaki were put on bandobust duty as part of the Mahashivaratri celebrations across the city.

The DCP said that when a Rakshak vehicle was moving towards the spot it was attacked with stones. The windshield of the vehicle was damaged in the attack and taking advantage of the darkness, miscreants fled from the scene.

After investigation, the cops arrested Potti Ramakrishna and Vasupalli Sagar, both from Peda Jalaripeta for attacking the police vehicle.
