Shuhaib murder: CPM in fix as cadre surrender

Later, the duo was taken to the office of the district police chief for further investigation.

KANNUR: Putting the CPM in a fix, two CPM workers Akash Thillankery and Rijin Raj on Sunday surrendered at the Maloor police station for the murder of Youth Congress leader SP Shuhaib. Later, the duo was taken to the office of the district police chief for further investigation. Their arrest was recorded late in the night, police said. Sources in the department also said that more than six men, all of them related to CPM are in custody.

Akash, active on cyber space for the CPM, is the prime accused in the murder of RSS worker Vineesh two years ago. However, the CPM on Sunday said that those in custody were not the real culprits and they surrendered due to pressure from the police. However, the accused are known to have a direct role in the murder, beginning with the conspiracy and facilitating the movement of the killers who came in a car and later, helping them to change the car.

Sources in the police department said that raids were continuing in Mudakkozhi Mala and its premises, where the culprits went into hiding and the surrender comes at a point when the arrest was inevitable. However, Shuhaib’s family expressed that the real culprits are yet to be brought to light. Youth Congress held Mattannur police station in seige after they failed to arrest the accused five days after the brutal murder.
