Hyderabad: Two persons from Thane, in Maharashtra, who were selling firearms in the city were apprehended by the Special Operations Team of the Rachakonda police on Thursday. Two pistols and live rounds were recovered from the duo while another accused from Uttar Pradesh is yet to be nabbed, said a police official.

Acting on a tip-off, the Malkajgiri SOT personnel raided Sri Sai lodge located at LB Nagar on Thursday night and caught two persons, Datthu Veeresh Koli, 31, and Shyam Sunder Bhumaiah Vadepally, 29, both residents of Bhiwandi in Thane. On searching, the team found the pistols and ammunition. They were then taken into custody for questioning.

Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said that Datthu had a long criminal background. He was into the illegal firearm business and had contacts with several persons who were selling firearms in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Datthu mostly purchased pistols from his close associate Jamsheer of Azamgarh in UP and sold each weapon for about '1 lakh.

“Recently, Datthu and his friend Shyam purchased two pistols and two live rounds from Bhiwandi. They came to the city and were staying in a lodge at LB Nagar when the SOT caught them,” said the commissioner.

The commissioner said that investigation was on to unearth the total number of pistols sold and the people who have been purchasing these. Efforts are on to nab Jamsheer, he said.
