Chennai: Man drives ambulance away from hospital for meeting
Chennai: Drama ensued at a premier hospital off Anna Salai during the early hours of Sunday after a man drove away the ambulance parked inside the premises while leaving his luxury car behind. Even as hospital staff was contemplating filing a police complaint, the man drove back the ambulance and handed over it to the staff casually.
Police sources said that the incident happened around 1.30 am. The man who drove the ambulance was identified as Mithil. Investigations revealed that he brought his friend in his car for treatment. While his friend was being treated in the outpatient ward, the man went away. The ambulance went missing too, police said.
Hospital staff, assuming that the vehicle was stolen from the premises, checked the CCTV footage and informed the Thousand Lights police about the incident. A police team was at the hospital questioning the staff when about an hour later, Mithil brought the ambulance back.
“I left behind the car for my friend to use. Since I had to meet someone urgently and couldn't find a cab immediately, I took the ambulance,” a senior police officer quoted him as saying. The man has been summoned for enquiry, police said, adding that no case has been registered and both the parties settled for a compromise.
