Chennai jewel heist mastermind's wife held in Rajasthan

Senior police officers in Rajasthan, meanwhile have said that the bullet which killed Periyapandian was from his colleague's pistol.

Chennai: Even as the mastermind in the Chennai jewellery store burglary case, Nathuram Jat is absconding, Rajasthan police have arrested his wife Manju from a hideout near Jodhpur on Sunday. The case garnered national attention after a city police inspector Periyapandian was shot dead while attempting to nab the offenders at a brick kiln in Pali district, Rajasthan. Senior police officers in Rajasthan, meanwhile have said that the bullet which killed Periyapandian was from his colleague, Munisekar's pistol.

“It is not clear if it's a case of accidental firing. We are still awaiting a report from the Rajasthan police”, a senior police officer said. Police teams, for now, are concentrating on nabbing the suspects in the burglary case. On Friday, police arrested four members of a family who supposedly pelted stones at the City police team when they tried to apprehend the robbers, which eventually resulted in a police inspector being shot dead.

Those arrested on Friday were identified as Thejaram, his wife Bidhya and their daughters Suguna and Rajal. They were present at Rampura village on Tuesday night, when the police team from Chennai entered the village to apprehend Nathuram and Dinesh and pelted stones at them, police sources said. Dinesh Chowdry and Nathuram were the primary suspects in the burglary in November in which a gang drilled a hole through the first floor of a jewellery store near Kolathur and escaped with 3.5 kg gold jewellery on November 16.
