Bengaluru: Panic-stricken Ajmera investors protest in front of CCB office

They got fake WhatsApp messages that police were returning their money.

Bengaluru: As the Central Crime Branch (CCB) team has intensified its probe into multi-crore Ambidant scam, in which over 15,000 customers have been duped of Rs 600 crore, investors in another firm, Ajmera, gathered in front of the CCB Headquarters here on false information that the CCB was returning the money.

As many as 50 investors thronged the CCB office on Saturday morning after a WhatsApp message did the rounds, saying the CCB was returning the money collected by the alleged fraudulent group. The Ajmera Investment Company, run by Tabrez and Dastagir, has reportedly duped over 4,000 investors of over Rs 60 crore.

CCB officials had raided the Ajmera office in Jayanagar in May this year. While Dastagir was arrested and later released on bail, Tabrez is still absconding. A senior CCB official said that the agency is still investigating the case and searching for Tabrez. The company, which was set up a year-and-a-half ago, invited investments, promising high monthly returns. It paid up to 17 per cent initially, but later stopped the payments, forcing the investors to file complaints at different police stations.

CCB officials assured the protesting investors that they will help them get their money back, and sent them back saying the investigation was still on and would be concluded soon. The CCB police also assured the investors that they would track down the accused and arrest them soon.
