Tirupati: Tirupati bus stand has become notorious with rampant illegal activities around it. Prostitution and other crime activities are often reported at the East Police Station in Tirupati.
A murder which took place recently raised a question of security in the area. The man was murdered by unknown offenders at the bus stand in Tirupati in the early hours of Sunday. The deceased was identified as Rasool.
According to police, the culprits attacked him with a sharp edged weapon in the Bus Stand compound. He ran inside the bus stop screaming for help loudly even as he kept bleeding. He fell down unconscious at the Srikalahasti Bus platform.
Earlier also there have been many cases. Police raided lodges where auto drivers would organise prostitution rackets. It is also reported that some transsexuals harass passengers and manhandle them.
The issue of CCTV cameras popped up with only 16 cameras at the bus stand being in a working condition out of the installed 48. Due to unavailability of CCTV footage, investigation are still pending in some of the cases.
Speaking to DC, a police official, on condition of anonymity, said, "SP Abhishek Mohanty is also serious on the security lapses. On his orders, our police raided the lodges and controlled prostitution activity in the city. Most of the issues have been observed in the Bus Stand compound and we are working on them. Some parties are also monitoring activities at the bus stand. Regarding CCTV cameras, we are of the view to reinstall existing cameras in a working mode."
