Marks card scam: 2 arrested, hunt on for others
Bengaluru: The city police have arrested two people in connection with a fake marks card scam in Kamakshipalaya on Wednesday.
The arrested have been identified as Girish Gowda (35) a resident of Sunkadgatte and Raju (39), a resident of Kamalanagar.
The police are on the lookout for others, including two accused identified as Santhosh and Shekhar.
According to police, the complainant, Thirumala Rao (44), enrolled his daughter to Varsha Education Institute in Kottigepalya as she had failed in her Senior Secondary Education.
Rao was assured that even without appearing for exams the institute will issue a vocational course certificate, which will be valid at all colleges and they can also apply for government jobs.
Rao paid Rs 1.5 lakh in three installments for his daughter to clear the exams, after which she was issued with a Senior Secondary Education certificate.
He and his daughter then approached the Presidency College for admission. To their shock, the college authorities informed them the marks card was fake.
The father-daughter duo approached the institute and demanding their money back, but the accused refused.
The duo then approached Kamakshipalya police and lodged a complaint. The police registered a case of cheating and arrested the two.
"We have sent the certificate to the Institute of Basic and Vocational Education Centre for verifying if the marks card is genuine or fake, said a senior police officer. The institute has remained closed since the arrests.
