Visakhapatnam: Police constable turns chain snatcher, arrested
Visakhapatnam: The city police on Tuesday arrested a former police constable Annabatula Satya Srinivasa Rao, 39, for his involvement in chain-snatching and property offences in Vizag city. The cops recovered 442 gms of gold and 812 gms of silver ornaments from the police-turned-offender. Srinivasa Rao, a BA graduate, joined the police department as a civil constable in 1998 and worked in East Godavari district.
According to police, Srinivasa Rao and his friend Prasad were involved in rice-pulling business (selling some coins to gullible people citing that coins have magical powers) but they suffered losses. The police constable took to crime in 2015 snatching gold chains from women and stealing valuables from houses in East Godavari.
Rao was involved in several property offences in East Godavari district. Later, he came to Vizag city and committed snatching and burglaries at Pendurthi and others areas. The Pendurthi police nabbed him and recovered the booty from him.
