Kerala: POCSO against mother, lover for abusing minor

Since the couple had deleted all information from their social media accounts, it was difficult for the police to locate them.

KOZHIKODE: The missing case of a mother and seven-year-old daughter almost four months ago, took a twist, when the mother as well as her lover turned out to be abusive towards the child. The police recorded the statement of the minor girl, after the mother, girl and the man, hailing from Karunagappilly, Kollam, were found from Velankanni three days ago. According to the police, the couple met on social media and had deleted all the account details, prior to leaving the house on June 21.

The woman was known to have been cheated out for money, as in the case of many others the man, Ajith (31), had exploited. Nearly 25 sovereigns of gold and lakhs of rupees were handed over to him by the woman. The missing of the duo from Kunduparamba near here, had raised doubts including forced conversion, which the police had then rejected. Since the couple had deleted all information from their social media accounts, it was difficult for the police to locate them.

The phone number, the woman had scribbled in her diary is known to have given links leading to the accused. "The child, after being brought back to Kozhikode, said she was sexually exploited by the man, with the consent of the mother. POCSO case was registered on the basis of her statement. She was sent to the custody of her father," said V.M. Abdul Wahab, special branch ACP.
