Chandigarh: A 22-year-old Haryanvi singer from Narela in Delhi was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Chamrara village in Haryana's Panipat district on Tuesday, police said.
Harshita Dahiya was shot when she was on her way home in a car around 4 pm after her performance at a function in the village, police said.
"When she was returning, a black car overtook her vehicle near Chamrara and forced it to stop," Panipat DSP Desh Raj said.
He said two unidentified youth asked the two assistants and the driver of the singer to come out of the car and later shot her in the vehicle. They fled the scene after killing her.
"A team has been formed and investigation is underway. The postmortem is still going on. We will slowly get to the bottom of it," he added.
The assailants fired seven bullets at Dahiya; out of which, six hit her forehead and neck. She died on the spot.
Recently, Dahiya had posted a video on social media where she claimed that she has been receiving death threats. However, if she lodged a compliant about it, is still unknown.
According to NDTV, police suspect that gangster Dinesh, also Dahiya's brother-in-law, is behind her murder. In a police complaint filed in 2014, she had accused Dinesh of raping her.
Dinesh is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi....
